XT385 Treadmill

2011 has brought a brand new design and even more advanced and high quality features to the ever popular XT385 Treadmill from Spirit Fitness. This is the best selling Spirit Treadmill, and this exceptional machine can be used for both domestic and light commercial use. Spirit have put a great deal of thought into the console on the new XT385, it now features a Large 7.5" Blue Backlit LCD Information Panel, along with a unique muscle activation system. This is a fantastic way to understand which muscle groups are gaining the most benefit during your work-out. The LED lights will activate in two degrees of engagement: Amber represents medium involvement, and Red, full or heavy involvement.

The oversized 20” X 58” running belt surface, commercial quality 2.5mm Duraweave Running Belt and the 3.0CHP Quiet Drive Motor are just a small selection of the outstanding features you can enjoy. Spirit have also featured a whisper quiet elevation motor with incline options of 0-15%, this prevents disruptions during your training, enabling an enjoyable workout throughout. Following all of the positive feedback on Connection Fitness's web site, competitive prices and the time taken to explain options, alternatives etc, I decided to go for it and had a treadmill (not a Spirit treadmill) delivered promptly to my home in Dublin.

Because I have a specific requirement for long runs (for marathon training), we went through the various options in my specified price bracket and went for a model that seemed to fit the bill. However, on using it for a couple of weeks, I discovered some design weaknesses that meant it just didn't meet my requirements.

So, I contacted Connection Fitness and explained the situation. It's when something goes wrong that you really get a sense of a company's attitude to customer service in their reaction...and they were absolutely superb. Kevin and Emma spent ages over the phone and email answering my questions, and even putting me directly in touch with an expert from the Spirit distributor in UK. We selected a replacement treadmill and, under the "30 Day Buy and Try" policy, they organised collection of the old and delivery of the new, without any fuss whatsoever. In short, a fantastic customer service experience - you can buy in total confidence and rest assured that you will get nothing but the best treatment.

So, the Spirit XT385...how is it for me? With the awful weather we've had over the last couple of months, I've had every excuse to use this rather than brave the elements. It has coped with everything I've thrown at it (not hard given my lack of running talent) from 2 hour plods to 6 min/mile intervals and 15% "hills". The console is great...almost as good as a gym version. The programs give great variety and the quick buttons for speed and incline are well used. The speakers are fine (it's not Bose quality, but that would be hard to appreciate anyway with the background noise and panting). The build quality is excellent, again, gym standard. The fans are ok too, but open windows are better!

In terms of assembly, I managed it on my own, although some help would have been useful. The manual didn't even mention the tray under the console (which is very useful for extra storage on those long runs), but I recommend attaching this before trying to attach the console, as it then aligns the two console supports nicely.

In summary, a great treadmill from a great company.
